Lara Wetlands

We left Blackall, this still being Friday the 28th July, and drove to Lara Wetlands. Met up with John and Sue. If you recall we had been able to synchronize to meet them there. They were on the way home after a three month trip.

They had saved us a spot beside them. This location is part of a large cattle property. It had a natural spring running creating a wetland and the owners developed it as a campground. They set the place up with the bore head running into a sizeable pool and the runoff continuing to service the lake.

The pool was quite hot and oh so good.

There was a cold pool created from a trench coming from the lake. They also set up toilets and showers and camp kitchen. It was all irrigated so there was lush grass everywhere, a rarity in outback QLD. Although no power and water connection I did not mind paying the $10 per person per night. We were able to use a hose to fill our tanks on our site. Linda and I went for a walk around the lake the following morning. It was such a nice spot.

We had a good soak in the bore bath and good chat with John and Sue followed by lunch and collecting some firewood for our campfire that night. John had an electric chain saw. Nice and quiet and a little beauty. After another soak in the bore bath it was time to kick off the fire.

We did roast lamb and vegies in the camp ovens. It was a beautiful meal with red wine to accompany it.

After dinner we sat around the camp fire, and anyone who knows me well will know that I had to play with the fire and put come character pieces on. Twin turbo jets going off, but the photos don’t do it justice.

Sunday morning it was pack up time. Said goodbye to John and Sue. Loved that spot.
