Heading to the QLD Gulf Country

Finally it is time to hit the road again, and I am so excited.

A lot has happened since our last blog which finished in August 2016 as we arrived home from our trip which did a circuit around south east QLD, up through the country in the middle and over to the coast and heading south.  Once we arrived home from our 2016 trip we decided we wanted to move on from our house, for reasons I won't bore you with. We found a great house and rented out the house we left. But after a few months we were concerned with how much we owed on the new house and decided to sell the old one. The old house has now sold and actually settled today.

That now frees us up to travel more often. We are so blessed.

We did take a short break earlier this year, just three weeks, down into Victoria to visit some lovely friends and over to the coast at Merimbula and back home. I did not bother doing a blog for just three weeks. This trip is only for four weeks but it makes the cut.

So the plan for this trip is to head up to the Gulf of Carpentaria. The main destination is Lawn Hill National Park. We have never been there. Originally we intended on visiting there on our 2013 NT trip on the road home. But after damaging the van we gave it a miss so that we could head to sister Kay's place on the Sunshine Coast and help them build, then head home and repair the van.

Whilst we are in the Gulf we need to visit Normanton and Karumba on the coast. On the way up we want to check out lots of the towns, especially the ones that feature in Slim Dusty songs. If we have time in the four weeks we will come home via Cobbold Gorge and the Lava Tubes and then south through Emerald for the trip home.

We have been doing the smart thing and getting dental and medical things attended to and out of the way. I am getting an upgrade on the Landcruiser GVM so that we can carry all we need to legally and safely. I got the vehicle and van weighed (partially empty) the other day and it was a good result (meaning I do not believe we will be overweight). As we leave we will get it weighed loaded.

We head off next Monday the 24th July. So looking forward to the trip and getting away from a cold winter.

I will put some photos or a short video in to show where we have come to, which has held us up from getting on the road, a sacrifice that was worth it. There had been a video attached but it was to large for anyone to view.
